The Rebel Threat

Since Chad gained independence from France in 1960, the country has been plagued by internal turmoil, coups d'états, and civil strife. As soon as the country gained independence, the Central and Northern regions felt disenfranchised by the newly formed administration. Because of this history of underlying mistrust, the present rebel movement known as the Frontier for Change and Concord in Chad (F.A.C.T) has been able to gain momentum, culminating in the assassination of President Deby in April 2021. Armed and funded by former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi, this movement poses a grave existential threat to the N'djamena government.

While the French government has historically supplied military equipment to Chadian troops, this has not always been on time. In the interim, the Chadian government has been forced to seek assistance from private groups such as The Armored Group. Recently, the company supplied several dozen armored vehicles to the government.

To meet the specific requirements of the Chadian army, these vehicles have been modified and prefabricated with the most advanced live-fire and ballistics protection on the market. This includes the installation of an additional forward-facing fire position on the passenger side of Toyota Land Cruiser 79 pickup trucks. These are meant to be as adaptable and resilient as possible to repulse the advancing rebel onslaught on the capital N'Djamena.

Armored Military Vehicles to Combat the Threat

In order to successfully repel the rebel advance, the government of Chad needs specially modified tactical armored vehicles which can withstand a wide range of live fire and ballistic threats. This is precisely what The Armored Group excels at. After closely consulting with Chadian military officials, we have designed and delivered 60 specialized vehicles that are designed to offer maximum protection to both passengers and their equipment. 

The Armored Group is now arming the elite troops of the DGSSIE (Direction Générale de Service de Sécurité des Institutions de l'Etat), which is a state-run security service. According to the DGSAT (Division des Groupements Spéciaux Anti-Terrorism), six Ara 2-type MRAP (mine-resistant ambush-protected) personnel carriers produced with collaboration with the Nigerian business Proforce Defence were delivered to the organization on June 29, 2020.

The TerraHawk mobile surveillance tower enables a single law enforcement officer to operate the observation capsule which may be raised up to 25-feet and offering 360 visibility, enabling law enforcement to observe a situation that would otherwise be blocked from sight. Elgin, Illinois, residents get up-close look The Armored Group BATT

"The overtime killers" is what the Elgin Police Department's SWAT team has dubbed its most effective pieces of equipment — the Ballistic Armored Tactical Transport and accompanying robot cameras.

When the ballistic truck — BATT — rolls up to a hostage situation, standoff, or warrant arrest, less-than-cooperative suspects often give up immediately, said Elgin Police Sgt. Jim Lalley.

Four residents got to see BATT and the robot up close this week as part of "SWAT for a Day," an event offered to local nonprofits looking for auction items in fundraising drives.

At the Community Crisis Center's annual gala last spring, the package was the subject of a bidding war between Scott Budd and Glenn Murphy. When Budd won the bid — a present for his son Justin's birthday — he invited Murphy and Mark Seigle to come along.

SWAT for a Day groups watch for an hour of the all-day training. Participants wear ear protection because officers were using live fire while practicing sweeping hallways, classrooms and offices for "active shooters."

The officers aim at steel-backed shooting targets placed throughout the building while practicing throwing flash-bangs into rooms and looking for both suspects and civilians.

The training regimen and the department's equipment were chosen by Chief Jeff Swoboda and the city council following an armed standoff in February 2007, Lalley said. A man holed up in a Chicago Street house kept officers at bay for nearly 28 hours before shooting himself.

The city purchased BATT in 2011. Its radio-controlled unit has cameras that can both climb or descend stairs and allow officers to talk to a suspect remotely, he said.

In other training, Elgin SWAT was taught how to use small explosives to break down doors without injuring those inside a room by the Las Vegas Metro Police's SWAT team and by the federal Department of Homeland Security. Elgin is one of the few departments in the state trained for "explosive breaching," Lalley said.

The four men watching training in SWAT for a Day asked questions about the types of guns and equipment officers carry when called out for emergencies. Lalley also explained that their first concern is for the lives of any hostages and civilians. Concern for officers comes next, followed by the suspects.

Training allows officers to make calm, rational decisions in any high-stress situations they may face, Lalley said.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
